Top 15 Goal Setting Quotes!

…And the importance of aiming before taking flight.

Give a man a bow and arrow and tell him to, “SHOOT!” and his first response would be, “At what?”  When there is no target there is no purpose for shooting.  He could shoot the arrow anywhere and wherever the arrow ended up would be where the arrow ended up.  Not much to it.

On the other hand, if you gave the archer a target and challenged him to hit the bullseye – everything changes.  You now gave him something to aim at, something to challenge his skills against, something to measure his progress with, and something that gives all of his effort – purpose.  All by adding in a simple target.

That’s what a goal does to a person’s life – It changes everything.  You were given a life and you’ve been told ever since to, “live it.‘  Well, in order to answer that question your first thought should be, “By doing what?”  And that is the key focusing question that sets the basis for this list!

Everybody in this world has a different set of circumstances, different set of skills, and a different set of opportunities through which they can interact with the world and find their unique sense of fulfillment.  You’re mission in life should be to figure out what your unique, “sets” are and how you can take action to best capitalize on them that gives all of your effort purpose and meaning.  Goals are the guiding light that get you there.

Take your time reading through the tid-bits below and reflect on the Challenges I’ve posted at the end.  They will help you understand the power of goal setting, encourage you to focus your aim, and hopefully motivate you to create some clear targets that you can take flight towards achieving!  …Starting Today!  Enjoy :)

#5

#2

“If you raise your standards but don’t really believe you can meet them, you’ve already sabotaged yourself. You won’t even try; you’ll be lacking the sense of certainty that allows you to tap the deepest capacity that’s within you… Our beliefs are like unquestioned commands, telling us how things are, what’s possible and impossible and what we can and can not do. They shape every action, every thought and every feeling that we experience. As a result, changing our belief systems is central to making any real and lasting change in our lives.” ~ Anthony Robbins

#1

“My philosophy of life is that if we make up our mind what we are going to make of our lives, then work hard toward that goal, we never lose – somehow we always win out.” ~ Ronald Reagan

Application Exercises:

———— ———— ————

Level 1 Challenge:  Take some time right now to reflect on some of your goals in the past.  Think about some of your past New Year Resolutions that you never saw through to the end and some of the resolutions that you actually found success with and/or adopted as part of your lifestyle.  Think about some of your ‘fed up‘ moments when you resolved to make lifestyle changes for the better because you were sick of feeling or acting a certain way and maybe ended up simply falling back to your old ways after a few short weeks.  Once you have a few of these examples in mind, think about how you set those goals and why you achieved some goals but not others.  What factors contributed to that?  Use the SMART acronym below to help guide your thoughts and provide you with some valuable insight that can change the way you set all of your goals in the future!

smart goal setting conceptS – Specific: Be clear and unambiguous when setting your goal. Don’t leave room for guessing.

M – Measurable: Set a goal that allows you measurement toward your goals progress.

A – Attainable: Ask yourself, “Is this realistic and attainable?” If not, back to the drawing board.

R – Relevant: Create a goal with importance and meaning. Make sure the effort is worth it to you.

T – Time-bound: Commit to a deadline. Open-ended goals tend to go forgotten.

Level 2 Challenge:  Follow the same principles discussed above and set one SMART and focused goal that you can commit to achieving whole-heartedly.  Then, make sure you put it in a place where you can be reminded of it every day.  For example, you could turn your goal into a poster and place it on your bedroom wall, or you could make your goal your smartphone background, or you could put your goal on your work desk – anywhere that you will see it often.  Finally, try and tell somebody what you’re doing and tell them to hold you accountable.  The power of accountability can never be overemphasized.  When you have somebody to report to, you will be much more likely to push through on days when you don’t feel like it and resultantly, see your goals through to the end!

Level 3 Challenge:  Set two SMART goals and inspire three other people to set a SMART goal of their own!  Life has a lot to do with connection and the more you interact with the people within your circle of influence and do interesting things with, the more fulfillment that you are all going to find together!  It’s the principle of Synergy.  When you work together with another person the result isn’t doubled but exponentially increased!  Who can you think of that might need some help setting goals?  Who do you know of that always talks about change but never really does anything about it?  What goals can you think of that might be of common interest to people in your circle?
