“If you wait until you can do everything for everybody, instead of something for somebody, you’ll end up not doing nothing for nobody.” ~ Malcom Bane

Brainstorming ways to maximize the number of lives you hope to touch or trying to think up ways to increase your range of influence isn’t as important as the actual act of giving and getting started! If you do have big plans that can make a real impact in the lives of many, by all means, pursue them! But don’t let that interfere with the small deeds anybody can do on a daily basis.

Remember, “No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted” (Aesop) “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” (Buddha) Make what change you are able to make now, and let the ‘giving spirit’ spread like a virus, infinitely touching the lives of people you may never meet, across boundaries you may never cross, in ways you may never imagine. That is the power of giving and your ticket to changing the world.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” ~ Albert Einstein

“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” ~ Zig Ziglar

“From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life.” ~ Arthur Ashe

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” ~ Muhammad Ali

“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to them their own.” ~ Disraeli

“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” ~ Anthony Robbins

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by ‘I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.’ Hungry not only for bread — but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing — but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks — but homeless because of rejection.” ~ Mother Teresa

“Giving is the highest expression of potency. In the very act of giving, I experience my strength, my wealth, my power. This experience of heightened vitality and potency fills me with joy. I experience myself as overflowing, spending, alive, hence as joyous. Giving is more joyous than receiving, not because it is a deprivation, but because in the act of giving lies the expression of my aliveness.” ~ Erich Fromm

  • Awesome work… Thanks for your wonderful quotations

  • And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

  • The #1 quote is out of place and most likely misinterpreted. “In the very act of giving, I experience my strength, my wealth, my power.” I see this as Fromm almost blatantly saying that giving boosts his ego because he sees just how much he is above others. I do not mean to anger anyone, it is just how I see it. If you think me wrong, I would love to have a respectful and mature debate about it.

    • Hi John! An intriguing comment indeed. To be honest, I don’t know much about Fromm’s life or how he was as a person. When I was reading his quote, the idea that really hit home with me was that of giving in order to feel really alive. I guess I interpreted it more along the lines of: the very act of giving means that I am one who is alive and is able to give. Because real joy and happiness is only real when shared and strength, wealth, and power mean nothing when you are alone. Giving creates connection, an overflowing feeling of joy, and a reiteration that you are alive and a part of this life experience. I’d love to continue this conversation…! Anyone else have any thoughts?

    • Depends on what your definition of strength, power and wealth is. the context of these word are clearly used to express the deeper meaning to those words. Strength is the ability to overcome self i.e selfishness, self absorption and ego, wealth is the results you get from giving, we all know giving always results in receiving, receiving gratitude, humbleness from yourself and the people you give to, appreciation from yourself and the people you give to and you get to see and experience the world in a positively different way. What beautiful wealth to have!! and lastly power is potency and with potency, you get to influence and change lives of others and yourself.

And with all this how can you not have joy. Your perception of those three words and the whole quote was off. This quote is beautiful and if you still don’t see the point in the quote then you have an ego problem.

  • These are quite an outstanding set of quotes. Thank you so much for sharing such a moving set of quotes!

  • Life is short, and one moment were here and then we’re gone. Take nothing for granted in Life, for Life is precious and we are blessed to be part of it.

  • #8 was actually Winston Churchill. My gift to you! LOL!

    • I looked it up and it looks as though most sources attribute #8 to Arthur Ashe… If you had a source that would confirm it was Winston Churchill, I’d be happy to update it! Thanks for the look out though! 🙂

  • The life is very joyful for those who can understand to life.Life is hard to those who are living in ignorance.Share your life with happiness and pleasure, because you have got chance which has been given by Lord to you.jj
