“Now more than ever I am aware that a person’s significant birthdays can either mark the passage of time, or they can mark changes they’ve made in their lives to reach their potential and become the person they were created to be. With each passing year, I want to make good choices that make me a better person, help me become a better leader, and make a positive impact on others.” ~ John C. Maxwell, Leadership Gold
“Every time you make a choice, you are turning the central part of you – the part that chooses – into something a little different than what it was before. Taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, you are slowly turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or into a hellish creature.” ~ C. S. Lewis
“Perhaps our greatest power in life is the power to choose. Without question, choices are the most determining factor in how our lives turn out.” ~ John C. Maxwell, Leadership Gold
“A man who procrastinates in his CHOOSING will inevitably have his choice made for him by circumstance. So if you now number yourself among the disenchanted, then you have no choice but to accept things as they are, or to seriously seek something else. But beware of looking for goals: look for a way of life. Decide how you want to live and then see what you can do to make a living WITHIN that way of life. But you say, ‘I don’t know where to look; I don’t know what to look for.’
And there’s the crux. Is it worth giving up what I have to look for something better? I don’t know—is it? Who can make that decision but you? But even by DECIDING TO LOOK, you go a long way toward making the choice.” ~ Hunter S. Thompson
“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference
you want to make.”
~ Jane Goodall
Either you’re a part of the cure or a part of the disease.
Your choices make it so that you HAVE to be for one or the other… There is no indifferent.
So either you’re relationships are getting better with people or they’re getting worse.
Either you’re contributing to a greener world or you’re promoting a more polluted one.
Either you’re promoting education and learning or you’re promoting ignorance.
Regardless of what you say or how you feel… It is what you DO that make the real difference.

Think about all of the areas in your life that your actions have a direct influence on: Relationships; Health; Integrity; Environment. Now, imagine as though each of those areas are a river and you are in a canoe rowing upstream. When you positively contribute to those areas, you paddle forward; when you negatively contribute, you paddle backward; and when you don’t contribute at all, that’s the equivalent of not paddling at all, which will of course cause you to start drifting downstream.
So, unless you are taking positive action in each of those areas, it’s important to remember that you may be drifting behind. Of all the areas in your life, which area do you feel you need to improve in the most? What little things can you do every day that will ensure you take some strokes in the right direction?
Take five minutes and run through a typical day in the life of YOU, isolate some of the decisions you make on a regular basis, and think about what those decisions are promoting. Do you recycle? Do you make others feel good about themselves? Do you spend enough time on personal development? Do you voice your opinion? Thoughts welcome in the comments below!
One ship drives east and another drives west
With the self same winds that blow.
‘Tis the set of the sails,
And not the gales,
That tells us the way to go.
Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate;
As we voyage along through life,
‘Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm, or the strife.
~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox

“The universal truth is beyond question – the only people who excel are those who have decided to do so.” ~ Seth Godin
“We can believe what we choose. We are answerable for what we choose to believe.” ~ John Henry Newman
“Nothing we can do can change the past, but everything we do changes the future.” ~ Ashleigh Brilliant
“I guess it comes down to a simple choice. Get busy living or get busy dying.” ~ Andy Dufresne (Shawshank Redemption)
