New York animation artist Jeff Hong has created less-than-rosy portrayals of Disney characters as they might fare in today’s world. They are not cheery images, but they are poignant in their depictions of very real challenges, from animal testing and ocean pollution to drug addiction and teen suicide.

In many of these instances it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with sadness, anger, and fear but what’s critically important is that we don’t let it paralyze us in our tracks.  While it’s true that many of these depicted challenges are of a massive scale, we can’t simply let that stop us from doing anything at all.  For this is the only life and the only earth we have—there are no do-overs.  And while that may sound cliché, it can’t be overstated because we’ve already had our wake-up calls—too many to count.  And yet, there is still so much that needs to be done—we mustn’t turn a blind eye nor sleep on our feet.

“The only way to be comfortable with death is to understand and see yourself as something bigger than yourself; to choose values that stretch beyond serving yourself, that are simple and immediate and controllable and tolerant of the chaotic world around you.  This is the basic root of all happiness.  Whether you’re listening to Aristotle or the psychologists at Harvard or Jesus Christ or the goddamn Beatles, they all say that happiness comes from the same thing: caring about something greater than yourself, believing that you are a contributing component in some much larger entity, that your life is but a mere side process of some great unintelligible production.” ~ Mark Mason, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

15 Quotes on Changing the World - And Why You Already ARE Making A Difference.
What you do makes a difference.  Every action, every choice, every day.

Don’t get it twisted in thinking that you’re just a small fish in a large ocean and that it doesn’t matter what you do – that the world will always be the same.

False.  Wrong.  Lazy thinking.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, motivated individuals can change the world – as it is the only thing that ever has!

Real change has and always will start with an individual, an individual who dares dream of a different world, influences people to join him on the quest to get there, and takes action accordingly.

Easier said than done – but it doesn’t have to be grandiose and insurmountable.  It simply has to start with the intention of changing one person.

As the Dalai Lama reminds us, “The suffering of one person or one nation is the suffering of humanity; The happiness of one person or nation is the happiness of humanity.” Continue reading

15 Eye-Opening Connection Quotes and How To Start Making a Difference in the World From Your Own Backyard!

Top 10 Connection Quotes - MoveMe Quotes

One of our basic desires as humans is the desire to feel as though we are a part of something greater than ourselves.  It’s our desire to feel as though we have contributed, that we have given back, and that we have made a difference in the world – so that we may find comfort in the way we have lived our life.

Too often, we get caught in the trap of thinking that if we can’t make a big enough difference in the world – then it’s not even worth trying.  We play these wonderful, grandiose, and romantic images in our mind of how we can change the world… only to be confronted by the reality of how darn big the world really is!  …And with limited resources and time, our list of blockades, challenges, and excuses tally up and ultimately immobilize us through frustration.

And when that happens… We miss our real opportunity.

“He who devotes himself to service with a clear conscience, will day by day grasp the necessity for it in greater measure, and will continually grow richer in faith… If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger, and will make not only for our own happiness but that of the world at large.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
